Surah Waqiah In English Translation

Surah Waqiah (Chapter of The Event) is the 56th chapter of the Quran. Here is the English translation of Surah Al-Waqiah:

  1. When the inevitable event comes to pass,
  2. There will be no denial of its occurrence.
  3. It will humble some and exalt others.
  4. When the earth is shaken with a violent shaking,
  5. And the mountains are crushed and crumbled,
  6. Becoming scattered dust,
  7. And you become divided into three groups:
  8. Those on the right, what of those on the right?
  9. Those on the left, what of those on the left?
  10. The foremost, foremost,
  11. Those are the ones brought near to Allah,
  12. In Gardens of Bliss,
  13. A great multitude from the early generations,
  14. And a few from the later generations.
  15. On couches, they will be reclining,
  16. Facing one another.
  17. Eternal youths will serve them,
  18. With goblets, pitchers, and cups of pure drink,
  19. Which will neither cause headaches nor intoxication.
  20. They will have fruits of their choice,
  21. And the meat of birds that they desire.
  22. And fair maidens with wide, lovely eyes,
  23. Like hidden pearls,
  24. As a reward for what they used to do.
  25. They will not hear any idle or sinful talk there,
  26. Only the saying, “Peace, peace!”
  27. The companions of the right, what of the companions of the right?
  28. They will dwell amid thornless lote trees,
  29. And clustered banana trees,
  30. And spreading shade,
  31. And outpouring water,
  32. And abundant fruits,
  33. Neither ending nor unattainable,
  34. And upon comfortable furnishings.
  35. Surely, We have produced the women of Paradise in a special creation,
  36. And made them virgins,
  37. Loving, age-matched companions,
  38. For the companions of the right,
  39. A multitude from the earlier generations,
  40. And a multitude from the later generations.
  41. The companions of the left, what of the companions of the left?
  42. They will dwell amid scorching wind and scalding water,
  43. In the shade of black smoke,
  44. Neither cool nor refreshing.
  45. They were, before this, living in luxury,
  46. And they persisted in the great sin,
  47. And used to say, “When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we indeed be resurrected?
  48. And our forefathers as well?”
  49. Say, “Indeed, the earlier and the later generations
  50. Will be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day.”
  51. Then you, the strayers who deny the truth,
  52. Will eat from the Zaqqum tree,
  53. And fill your bellies with it,
  54. And drink boiling water on top of it,
  55. And drink as the drinking of thirsty camels.
  56. Such is their entertainment on the Day of Judgment.
  57. We have created you, so why do you not acknowledge the truth?
  58. Have you considered the semen that you emit?
  59. Do you create it, or are We the Creator?
  60. We have decreed death for all of you, and We are not to be prevented,
  61. You know not, from replacing you with others like yourselves or transforming you into beings.
  62. You have certainly known the first creation, so will you not remember?
  63. Have you considered what you sow?
  64. Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the Growers?
  65. If We willed, We could make it broken stubble, and you would remain in wonder,
  66. Saying, “We are indeed burdened with debt.
  67. Rather, we have been deprived.”
  68. Have you considered the water that you drink?
  69. Is it you who sent it down from the clouds, or are We the Sender?
  70. If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?
  71. Have you considered the fire that you Kindle?
  72. Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the Producer?
  73. We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers,
  74. So glorify the name of your Lord, the Greatest.
  75. So I swear by the positions of the stars—
  76. And indeed, that is an oath if you knew—that this is a noble Qur’an,
  77. In a well-preserved Book,
  78. Which none can touch except the purified,
  79. A revelation from the Lord of all beings.
  80. Is this the discourse that you disdain?
  81. And you make denying it your means of livelihood?
  82. Why, then, when the soul reaches the throat,
  83. While you look on—
  84. And We are nearer to it than you, but you do not see—
  85. Why, if you are not to be repaid,
  86. Do you not return it—
  87. If you should be truthful?
  88. So if he is of those brought near to Allah,
  89. Then happiness and bounty and a Garden of Bliss.
  90. And if he is of the companions of the right,
  91. Then peace to you from the companions of the right.
  92. But if he is of the deniers, the strayers,
  93. Then an abode of scorching wind and scalding water,
  94. And the shadow of black smoke,
  95. Neither cool nor refreshing.
  96. Indeed, they were before that indulging in affluence,
  97. And they persisted in the great sin,
  98. And used to say, “When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we indeed be resurrected?
  99. And our forefathers as well?”
  100. Say, “Indeed, the former and the later generations
  101. Will be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day.”
  102. Then indeed, O deniers, you will eat from the tree of Zaqqum,
  103. And fill your bellies with it,
  104. And drink on top of it boiling water,
  105. And drink as the drinking of thirsty camels.
  106. This is their hospitality on the Day of Judgment.
